EMPLOYMENT TERMINATION
INDEPENDENT LEGAL ADVICE
If your employer terminates (or is going to terminate) you, whether for cause (fired) or without cause, it is important to understand whether you have been treated fairly under the law. Many employers will actually require you to speak with a lawyer before accepting their severance package.
Independent Legal Advice provides you with an opportunity to talk with a lawyer and fully explain your situation. The lawyer will review the relevant documents (usually the employment contract and your termination letter) in advance of your call. he lawyer will then give you their opinion on what your options are, including their best guess on possible outcomes and costs. You then decide if and how you’d like to proceed.
The appointment, including having the lawyer review your materials in advance of the call, is a fixed fee ($350 + tax) and then if you wish, walk away without any further obligation.
Please note, other than in exceptional circumstances, ILAs are conducted via phone. Payment is taken in advance to hold the appointment. “No shows"“ and appointments canceled with less than 24 hours notice are charged the full amount. All appointment times are AST (Nova Scotia time).
